چکیده
Computing the backscattering of harmonic acoustic waves from underwater elastic targets arbitrary shapes is a challenging problem considerable practical significance. The finite element method well suited for discretization target, while boundary addresses radiation condition at infinity. A disadvantage integral that it yields non-unique solutions certain wavenumbers. This failure associated with existence eigensolutions Helmholtz equation in interior complement fluid domain (acoustic modes). combined formulation (CHIEF) credited to Schenk employed combine surface equations relation written down selected points within cavity scatterer (i.e., domain). The difficulty this approach has always been lack guidance on necessary number and their locations. solution proposed here compute modes using identify locations peaks. This novel aids decision as how many should be where they located. Our numerical experiments demonstrate robustness automatic selection CHIEF points’ numbers

Finite element methods for acoustic scattering
In these lecture notes we introduce the finite element method and describe how it can be used to approximate the solution to certain problems of acoustic scattering. We also highlight some of the difficulties involved, and briefly summarise some current research aimed at resolving these issues.
متن کاملFinite Element and Boundary Element Methods for Transient Acoustic Problems
The paper focuses on the numerical treatment of transient acoustic problems using finite element (FE) and boundary element (BE) methods. The FE method relies on a pressure formulation and the use of an implicit integration schemes for solving the related second-order differential system. The procedure is shown on cavity (interior) problems but can be extended to exterior problems using the DtN ...
متن کاملStrategies for Automatic Finite Element Modeling
In this paper strategies for the development and implementation of automatic finite element modeling systems are discussed within the context of knowledge engineering. In the light of language analysis, the finite element model generation, which involves transformation between three models: physical, analytical, and finite element, models, is seen as a process of language translation. Taking in...
متن کاملFinite Element Methods for Convection Diffusion Equation
This paper deals with the finite element solution of the convection diffusion equation in one and two dimensions. Two main techniques are adopted and compared. The first one includes Petrov-Galerkin based on Lagrangian tensor product elements in conjunction with streamlined upwinding. The second approach represents Bubnov/Petrov-Galerkin schemes based on a new group of exponential elements. It ...
متن کاملAutomatic generation of hexahedral finite element meshes
An algorithm for the generation of hexahedral element meshes is demonstrated. The algorithm starts by creating a structured grid in the interior of an object. Then the boundary region is meshed by means of an isomorphism technique that uses basically 2D-operations. Examples are given that demonstrate the quality of the algorithm.
